Some people (beta) apparently do create colorful versions of themselves. I think the monotone color schemes are popular because a) they're cheaper, and b) they reinforce the cultural assumption that dittoes are and ought to be slaves, distinct from and below the rest of humanity. As for creating a smarter version of oneself, my answer is that a black ditto of oneself will be cheaper and more loyal than a consultant, which is how one normally gets people smarter than oneself to work on one's problems.
