Also, throwing our muscle around isn't likely to solve anything in
the long run and may well compound our problems. We may be able to
eradicate some significant portion of terrorism, but we will never
eradicate terrorism completely with force alone. In the very
attempt to wipe out terrorism _forcefully_ we are creating new
impetus for people to hate us and to support those who would do us harm.
The only long term solution, however more difficult and challenging
it might be, is to embrace the world community and attack the root
of the problem. This would still require a big stick, but it
wouldn't resemble that old arcade game where you try to whack the
heads that pop up from a grid of holes the way our current policy
seems to.
