It did come down to a single play and the missed field goal was just the
luck of the draw. But on the other hand the Giants played themselves into
position to get lucky. The Bills allowed that and based on talent alone it
should not have happened. Other years the Bills were overmatched and
unfortunately for them they never got lucky

No doubt, the Giants executed a great game plan in that one to put
themselves in position to win. Of course, people oftne forget that the
Giants had a very gaudy regular season record that season themselves - they
were a lot like the Patriots in that way (among many others) - lacking star
players, but solid in all phases of the game.
Also now forgetten is a bit of trivia that in the Bills' 4th Super Bowl,
the Dallas Cowboys actually pulled off the greatest comeback in Super Bowl
History. Yes, the Bills had them on the ropes at halftime, and was
driving for another score when the usually sure-handed Thurman Thomas
fumble the ball - at that moment, the memory of three straight losses piled
onto the Bills' psyche and they never recovered.
Speaking for myself it is *that* moment, the fumble, that I would take back
if I could, far more than I would missed field goal.
