March is approaching, the time of year when a young man's fancy often turns
to love and, much more importantly, baseball. We have had some, umm,
vigorous discussions on baseball in the past, and I know we have more than a
few serious baseball fans here. So let's have some fun with it :-) So, in
the spirit of getting non-political discussions going on list, I'm making a
proposal.

I will, over the course of the next few days, write up a set of predictions
on the winners in each of the divisions, plus the wildcard, in the upcoming
season. Just as last year, I'll try to fill in some commentary explaining
my predictions and so on. I did that last year and then spent a large
amount of time crowing over the fact that I got most of them right :-)
Well, here's a challenge - prove that it was just beginner's luck :-) I'd
like to see our other baseball fans do the same - before Opening Day
everyone on the list who considers themselves a baseball fan should write up
a set of predictions. As the season goes on we can compare them, talk about
how those predictions have been borne out and, at the end of the season,
crown a Brin-L baseball champion, second in prestige only to being the World
Series MVP :-)

My first cut - just to get things started. I'm not holding myself to these
_at all_ - I haven't thought about them, I just want to get things going.

AL East: New York
AL Central: Chicago
AL West: Seattle
AL Wildcard: Oakland

NL East: Atlanta
NL Central: Houston
NL West: Arizona
NL Wildcard: St. Louis

And, even though I've repeatedly argued that the postseason is little more
than luck :-) -
AL Pennant: New York
NL Pennant: Atlanta, but I _really_ want to pick Houston, and will probably
argue myself into it by the time I write up the ones to which I'm sticking.

WS: New York

Well, here's hoping we get something going.
