The problem with all this is that it assumes the new government will be democratic. Now, whoever the US puts in charge in Iraq after toppling Saddam Hussein will undoubtedly be pro-US at first, but that does not guarantee anything. Let's face it, the US has invaded countries and replaced governments before, but many of those new leaders did not exactly turn out to be nice, benign, pro-democracy leaders; as long as they were anti-communist, they could pretty much do whatever they liked. I believe that is a major challenge for the US right now: convince the rest of the world that whoever you put in charge of a country will really be a Good Guy, rather than just another US puppet with little or no interest in democracy, and more interest in personal wealth than national wealth. Replacing one dictator with an other one is not going to make the world a better place.
