The tone of this article seems, from a Western perspective, rather defeatist. 
There appears to be nothing that can be done to avert a continuing 
confrontation with Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda, since they do not object to what 
the West does but to what it is. 

However, any philosophy that espouses deliberate mass murder is, to my mind, 
quite totally evil. Any philosophy that doesn't mind allying with a monster 
like Saddam Hussein is cynically evil. If it takes a continuing confrontation 
to keep evil from triumphing, then so be it.

We do have the right to defend ourselves. We do have the right to believe in 
what we believe in.
