<< There is one major difference between the situation then and the situation

now. This time, there is a (quite reasonable) peace proposal from the Arabs

on the table. All that Israel has to do is accept the proposal. If Israel

would for once do the right thing, they might actually get to live in peace

with their Arab neighbours. >>

There is no peace proposal on the table. There is the vaguest beginning of a
peace proposal. One that not all the Arab countries have accepted. Iraq
hasn't accepted it. Syria hasn't accepted it. Lebanon hasn't accepted it.

Iraq wants Israel not to exist anymore. Syria doesn't give a damn about
anything except recovering the Golan Heights; if Israel were to offer them
the Golan back without doing anything for the Palestinians, Syria would sell
the Palestinians down the river without a second thought. Lebanon just wants
to throw its Palestinians out instead of giving them a chance to live
peacefully there (Israel, by contrast, will take any Jew from anywhere in the
world).

Israel does the right thing all the time, and only an anti-Semite could
possibly think otherwise. Israel is not perfect, and their recent conduct has
been counter-productive; but Israel is a stable, thriving democracy that
strives to protect its people. What Arab country does the same for its
people? Saddam Hussein has murdered thousands of Iraqis and Kurds; so did
Hafez al Assad when he was alive. Did you say a word of protest about that?
When do Arab countries ever do any right thing for anyone?
