I love the idea of giant space ships streaking at great speeds across the universe as much as any SF fan, but the more I think about it the less likely it seems to me. What I picture is nano machines able to travel economically at speeds close to C. Obviously a human isn't going to hop aboard a nano machine, but if the tech employed in Kiln People (which I haven't read yet so I am assuming here) is ever a possibility we might be able to give our consciousness a ride on one....
