By that time, there will be at least one computer set aside for use by
my offspring, so he'll be fighting his siblings to get at that one, and
mine will be off-limits. If he manages to sneak around and use it on
the sly, well, then he won't be using it when I want to, because I'll
either catch him in the act, kick him off and administer suitable
punishment (something having to do with the cleaning of bathrooms might
be a good one), or he'll not be on it when I walk into the room that
it's in and it won't be an issue to begin with.

Besides doing various e-mail related things which aren't all that
critical to the running of the household, I do things on this computer
that are more important as far as running the household goes, and I need
to be able to have access to the computer for those at any given moment.

We're already talking about setting up an inexpensive computer for
guests (mostly my mother) to be able to access the internet without
inconveniencing me. Setting up a computer for kids' use when they're
old enough to be learning how to use it isn't that big of a step from
there. (And I don't want anyone getting jelly on my trackball!)

Now, that doesn't solve the problem of when there's a 10-year-old, an
8-year old and a 5-year old all needing to be driven in different
directions and wanting help with homework and limiting the amount of
time I can be using my computer in *that* manner.... ;)
