The topic does not hurt me, it is the memory of our tragedy that still hurts like hell. >And indeed, it ruins your day (and you imply that this something that I >should not do.) Well, would you call it *nice* to ruin someone's day? Ruining someone's day, especially by reminding them of personal tragedy, is by definition something anyone should refrain from. >Why is it that consideration should be taken for your sensitivity to >certain topics, but that you would deny that we should express the same >consideration for the sensitivity of Jews to certain topics? I believe there is a difference here. Loss of a child is something that actaully happened to me fairly recently. How many of our Jewish members have personally experienced the Holocaust? For most Jews in this world, the Holocaust is something that happened to their ancestors but they never experienced personally. The other difference is that *you* brought up the memory of my tragedy, while it is the Jews themselves (and their supporters) who bring up the Holocaust every time something bad happens to them. I mean, I have never heard an Arab say "let's finish what Hitler started", but I have often heard Jews (and their supporters) say that "Arabs want to finish what Hitler started". >Of course, if you could only recognize that you birthed Phaedra, not >aborted her, maybe things would be much nicer for you. <sigh> John, an abortion is a premature ending of pregnancy through medical intervention; the *reason* for it is totally irrelevant, and the traumatic effects are not any less, depending on that reason. Unlike what pro-lifers seem to think, such decisions are not made my emotionless people over dinner, between main course and dessert. It has an enormous emotional and psychological impact, even on women who have an abortion because they do not want children. When you go through such an event, the difference between your and my definition of abortion is so small that it becomes non-existant. But that is something one can only fully understand when one has gone through the process personally -- and that is something everyone may hope never to experience.
