A 9 for original story idea and development.
An 8.5 for interesting and original future predictions (I was especially
intrigued by several concepts, and his adaptation of language, society, the
web and webcams, and privacy & technology issues.)
a 7.5 for execution (his 'jumping perspective' style of writing was very
smooth in spots, and much choppier in others.)
a 7 for character development.

The book could have been deeper, more philosophical and filled with more
technobabble. I personally enjoy that stuff. But Dr. Brin obviously set
out to write a good, page-turning sci-fi mystery (as Asimov used to) and
that would have bogged it down. I personally didn't like the ending, but
that might be a matter of personal preference.

I would and have suggested it to friends. Worth a read. :-)
