I was having a discussion with some pretty intractable creationists the
other day, and one of them was making the particularly specious argument
that evolution is bad science because it is not based on observed
experiments. That is, no one has ever actually observed the creation of a
new species over successive generations.

Obviously that's not going to happen in human lifetimes - but it occured to
me that bacteria have unusually short generations. So, does anyone know
of a case where science has produced a new species of bacteria?

Thanks.
