A couple of my favorite books are "Architect Of Sleep" by Steven R. Boyett
and "Seeds of Time" by Kay Kenyon. Architect Of Sleep is an exceptionally
well written book. You will have to find this one in a used bookstore or
Half.com or even Abebooks.com, but you should be able to find it for a very
low price.

It is about an alternate Earth, and I admit that the synopsis of the story
does sound a bit cheesy at first (I'll let you look it up for yourself), but
I was blown away when I read it.
