At the risk of being heretical, I'm going to suggest a non-scifi as an especially good read. If you get the chance, read "Ella Minnow Pea" by Mark Dunn. For those that like big words, it's subtitled "A Progressively Lipogrammatic Epistolary Fable", and is one of the most clever books I've read in ages. It takes place on an island nation that has all but deified the man (Nevin Nollop) who first wrote "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog", which is inscribed at the town square. When the letter "z" falls from the inscription, it is decided that it is the word of Nollop that the letter be stricken from all use. Then other letters begin to fall... And if anyone else reads this, please let me know if you had to start reading out loud towards the end :-) Sean
