Well, see, Dan, you make assumptions about the relationships involved
that aren't accurate.

1) You assume that I find the omission insulting. You fail to take
into account the friendship I have with his wife, such that if I were to
be mortally insulted, it would get back to her, and she could do a heck
of a lot more than slap his fingers on my behalf.

2) You assume that your relationship with me might be enough to warrant
my driving down to his house and slapping his fingers on your behalf.
First of all, a finger-slap on someone else's behalf isn't worth the
hassle of either getting Dan to watch Sammy or getting Sammy into the
car for the trip. Second of all, Marvin has a black belt in some
martial art or another, and I have witnessed some of his skills in this
department myself. I don't want to get into a situation where he might
instinctively react in defense.

3) You assume that I don't have a lot of other stuff to be doing.

4) In fact, I'm not sure that I can really fit Marvin into my schedule
until long about Tuesday, maybe over lunch, and I can't really leave
Sammy with Dan without prior scheduling, and the best restaurant to take
Sammy to that's anywhere near where Marvin works has a bunch of
employees that know us by sight, and I don't want to do anything to
lessen their opinion of me, such as, oh, I don't know, finger-slapping
Marvin.

So, I don't think I'm going to slap Marvin on the fingers.

;)

        Julia
