I would put it more strongly. In the U.S., only someone who was anti-semitic would make such a statement. And only others who were anti-semitic would defend anyone who made such a statement. I can't imagine any such context, but I am willing to extend the benefit of the doubt and say that I don't _know_ whether he is anti-semitic or not.
