As much as I hate to break out of the real world and list politics topics, I
thought I would throw this out....

My brother just gave me a DVD set of one of my favorite classic science
fiction shows, Space: 1999.

It strikes me at how cheesy some of these episodes are, but boy does this
DVD bring back some great memories. Some of the special effects were truly
horrible, but the model building for this show was outstanding, even by
today's standards.

I met Martin Landau, Nick Tate and Gerry Anderson (the creator of Space
1999) at a convention in Columbus Ohio almost 25 years ago. Martin Landau
and Nick Tate were very popular and very difficult to approach. But even
after all of these years I still remember how friendly and humble Gerry
Anderson was. He walked around the convention rooms and talked to anyone
that wanted to talk to him. I approached him and asked him if I could have
my picture taken with him, and his reply was "I would be honored". As a 14
year old, I was quite impressed by his friendly manner. Now, at 37 years
old, and having met a handful of other celebrities, I am still impressed by
this mans manner and how kind he was to a 14 year old.

The first season of Space: 1999 was my favorite, and the second season
totally sucked. :-) I think my favorite episode was "Another Time, Another
Place".

Ahh, the old days....
