Eileen is not going to be able to maintain the list at Cornell much
longer. So we're going to have to find another place to host it.

I can think of three options at the moment:

1) Creating a new list at Yahoogroups. I'm all set to put this into
effect. It has the advantage of being easier for the user to administer
his or her own listmail, but it has the disadvantage of ads at the
bottom of every post. They may create premium mailing lists in the
future, but I don't know how easy it will be to switch an existing list
over to premium service. There may need to be another switch of list if
that occurs.

2) Moving brin-l.com to a paid service that offers a mailing list and
then use that. The Gold plan at addr.com has 200 Mb storage, allows 6
Gb traffic, and has MySQL. Signing up for one year in advance would
make the cost about $175 for one year, based on the assumption that
sales tax would have to be paid. I'd be willing to provide the credit
card to put it on, with a few conditions. (E.g., I'd like to get firm
commitments from other listmembers that at least $100 of that would get
to me by the end of June, as I don't want to put more than $10/year into
this if I can help it and we have all sorts of extra expenses coming up
with the move, so the sooner I get $ the better; I'd also stipulate that
no "wall of shame" or similar page go onto the site as long as I were
associated with it; I'd want at least one other person besides myself
and Jeroen to have superuser status, to make administration a little
easier and make it possible for someone else to handle fixing any
problems.)

3) Moving the list to Nick's domain and server, as he has offered.

We should try to take steps towards moving the list by the end of the
month. I'd like to see some debate and have some sort of consensus
reached by the 16th (next Thursday) if possible, so if it's going to be
a multi-step process, it can be put into motion in time to get us
switched by the end of the month.

I can handle taking care of option 1) all by myself. The other two
depend on the cooperation of others.

If none of these options are acceptable to the majority of the
listmembers, perhaps someone else will have a better suggestion.

        Julia
