Oh, I forgot to ask [the reason for the star]. Is
this good English? I guess I read somewhere
that a sentence should not terminate with a
preposition.

Me:
Conventionally you shouldn't.  But, as Winston Churchill said, "That is the
sort of nonsense I will not up with put." :-)  So I wouldn't worry about it.
The phrasing, "Because he had more urgent matters with which to deal" is too
cumbersome to be of much use.
