Subject: Irregulars question: Packing up the kitchen
Can anyone recommend a good way to pack sharp knives for moving?
Julia
not quite sure how she should do this
Yes, two recommendations and one possibility:
1) For my mom, I put the sharp meat knives into two large ceramic vases
point down and then packed them tightly within and by wrapping the vase
completely in bubble wrap. Very efficient and safe.
2) For myself, I took chipboard, which are very thin pieces of cardboard
that usually can be purchased at a Mailboxes etc. (I got them from my
office) and cut and folded them around the blades into makeshift
sleeves, then taped them shut. Not as efficient, but I have a couple of
big butcher knives that couldn't be slipped easily into a vase. Vitally
important that the cardboard and not the tape faces the blade.
3) (This is how I dispose of razor blades....) You could always wrap the
blade in masking tape, making sure that there was a lip of joined tape
below the cutting surface. Never tried it, but it would probably work.
