Therefore, let's invent a new "transistor", name it whatever you like, but 
attribute it correctly please.

A transistor merely holds a value of high or low.  Therefore, if the new 
computer medium is to be light, a simple transistor would be a prism mounted 
on a pole.  You merely rotate the prism and hold the beam of sunlight fixed 
and voila, you get any number of values you desire (binary digits are 
pre-school, quaternary digits ready to go today, etc).

Speaking of power, a focused beam of sunlight is way cheaper than generating 
electricity, running it through miles of wire, then pumping it into our homes.
