_Childcraft Annual: The How and Why Library_, published by Field Enterprises

I read it over and over when growing up; it has been a valuable source of
inspiration and information. It cultivated whatever talent I have today.

>From Vol. 4, World and Space:

Where does the Ocean Begin?
The ocean may have a top of rippling whitecaps
or towering waves of water.
The ocean has a bottom of deep craters
and high mountains.
But does it have a beginning?
Does the ocean begin at your toes,
when you let it gurgle around your feet at a beach?
Or does the ocean begin where it pounds
against the cliffs of a far-off land?
Does the ocean begin under the ice near the North Pole,
or does it begin under the sun of the southern seas?
The ocean begins and ends
wherever it meets the land.
It spreads between the lands of the world,
or gleams in a sunlit harbor,
or surges as surf onto the beach of a cove.

[Even today this article has relevance to me, as I have more reverence for
the books, as it now is talking about the fractal dimension]
