I'm not sure I'll have time to write detailed replies in the near future but I very much appreciate the effort that you've all put in, and it's reminded me why I like Brin-L so much. In reply to Ronn, I finished reading _The Mythical Man Month_ today and I've recently read DeMarco and Lister's _Peopleware_, which is an excellent book too. It's nice that not only these books but opinion here on Brin-L (and on the Culture) largely seems to support my own intuitions about how these things should be done.
