<<How many of the 500 Israeli deaths were civilian deaths caused by
terrorists and how many were Israeli's actively involved in the conflict
(i.e., Israeli soldiers or Israeli terrorists)?
How many of those 1500 Palestinian deaths were active combatants (i.e.
Palestinian soldiers/militia and Palestinian suicide bombers) and how
many were civilian deaths?
Active combatants, whether legal or illegal combatants under the Geneva
Convention, are people who know and expect that their actions could lead
directly to their death (especially suicide bombers). Civilians going
about their everyday routines of work, play, and/or worship do not
expect that at any moment they could be killed.>>

It depends - about 30 soldiers were killed during active duty, but if
you count also those who were in blown buses on their way to the base,
the number will reach 50. 60 if you'll count reservists or soldiers on
home leave.
About Palestinians I can't tell you much for sure. It's known that some
of the dead are not dead at all, known that they count within those 1500
everybody who died during this time - including from age or from car
accident or stoned to death as collaborators, known that 56 Janin dead
almost turned into "thousands". Our government apologized for about 50
deaths. Given that there were, probably, deaths of civilians, that it
preferred not to be responsible for and that there were times that it
took responsibility by mistake, it looks like a right number. Of course,
I can't know for sure.
