September.  (As was the experience in Maine, actually, a few years
earlier.  Maybe 7 years?)

And not 4 months later, on New Year's Day, I saw the sunrise on a beach
in New Hampshire, walked along the edge of the water, and was able to
crack *ice* in the sand after each receding wave.  Quite a difference.

How cool is the Gulf in, say, January?
