It doesn't work with all CD-ROMS but some oldies will run under the driver of a newer model from the same manufacturer. It works for some of the older Phillips CD-ROMS and I know of one HP CD-ROM that will take that kind of abuse for instance. That way you might install a windows driver and get the long names. But it is trial and error to find one that will work if there is one at all. Hope that helps. Sonja
