It's called Battleship or Electronic Battleship, depending on whether you
buy the version with the special electronic sound effects.

My dad taught me and a nephew of mine who is about my age how to play
Battleship in a car during a road trip. Instead of using the actual game
board and pieces, we used square graph paper and pencil. It was lots of
fun, and when we actually bought the game and played it sometime later, I
was a little disapointed that the pieces didn't really add anything to the
game.
