Islam pretty much took over the Arab world much in the same way (but not necessarily using the same methods) that Christianity took over the European world. I'm also in the same boat as you, in that I don't know the origins of either Arab or Jewish cultures (not religions,) but I don't think they have the same origins. -- Matt
