It's kind of a joke around our house, whenever we get a persistent sales
call, the standard first question we ask is: "What are you wearing?". If
that doesn't get an immediate hang up, the second question is "bikini or
briefs?". Nine out of ten hang up on the first question, and I have only had
the opportunity to use the second question once. I have found consistently
that men hang up immediately, women usually have something annoyed to say
before they hang up. I have never had the opportunity to use the third and
final question....

Anyway, when my ex-wife and I separated, I was inundated with collection
calls from her not paying debts that were hers from before we were married.
I found a VERY effective way to discourage bill collectors then. I press a
few buttons on the phone and tell them that they are being recorded and ask
them to state their name and company name. This doesn't phase the credit
card and bank people, but the really aggressive ones from private collection
agencies usually hung up immediately.
