Uhhhh..... Jeroen, now you are evading your own questions!       You asked
why Europeans insist on UN support, *if* they consider the UN to be
discredited.   If you change the question in your answer (by deleting the
"if" statement), you are, by definition, evading the question, and
substituting your own question for the asked question.
