Erik already answered with the dictionary. This'll be a little less
formal. :)
"Whore" can mean "prostitute". While the default gender of "prostitute"
seems to be female, you can say "male prostitute" and mean a man who
sells his body. (Or a teenaged boy, but that's getting into ickier
stuff, and it's one of the reasons that "NYPD Blue" is inappropriate TV
viewing for children, because that comes up once in awhile.)
A "gigolo" is a man who receives money or financial support from a woman
in exchange for sexual services. Or more mildly, a hired escort for
social functions. In older English murder mysteries, it's not
necessarily assumed that the gigolo is actually sleeping with his
client. (And now can someone help exorcize David Lee Roth's song from
my head?)
