I told my recruiter I smoked pot, they still accepted me for early enlistment. Was a funny scene, sitting at the kitchen table with mom signing my life away, it came to the drug question and I smoothly (I'm sure) just passed it on to the done file without signing it. Later she went upstairs and the recruiter asked me about it.
'How often have you smoked pot?'
'Only once sir." (This was the honest truth....at the time)
'How long ago was it?'
'Yesterday'
He paused then told me to sign no and don't do it again.
I can still remember it. After a PSU football game in the parking lot there was a group of at least 20 people standing in a big circle with three joints going around. I was only 16, so I wasn't drinking but was a designated driver, before there were such things. The guy next to me, an older friend, was passing them to me and I would just pass them on. Finally he said, 'come on it won't hurt.' Wheee!
