Not to mention extremely corrosive?

I hear this a lot, especially from divers, but it is my understanding that
"pure oxygen" would burn your lungs and kill you quickly.

Isnt it actually the "highest tolerable oxygen content atmosphere" that
people mean when they make this kind of statement?
