Very interesting observation on this column:
Alterman writes: "Some reporters are just political activists with columns
who prefer useful lies to the truth."
And then immediately cites a single example of a right-wing columnist.
I'm surprised that he didn't catch this example of his own incredible bias,
since it did not appear that he was intending to preach to the choir, but
it certainly caused him to lose several degrees of credibility with me.
Then, of course, came his treatment of Clinton.... where somehow he
completely missed the fact that although the press was willing to call him
a liar on matters of *scandal*, they granted him the same deference as
every other President in terms of calling him a liar on matters of public
policy.
Alas, what started off as a possibly interesting and even-handed look at
the state of American public discourse, ended up as yet another screed by
Democrats against Republicans. yawn.

People everywhere want to say what they think; choose who will govern
them; worship as they please; educate their children -- male and female;
own property; and enjoy the benefits of their labor. These values of
freedom are right and true for every person, in every society -- and the
duty of protecting these values against their enemies is the common
calling of freedom-loving people across the globe and across the ages.
