So, can Brin-L recommend some more Brin for me? ;)
I haven't had a change to read Kil'n People yet (I wonder if it will have the apostrophe in the title in the U.S. paperback release -- the hardcover did not), but I'm looking forward to it.

Someone recommended the first Uplift Trilogy. I would recommend the first Uplift trilogy also, but don't be afraid to read Startide Rising and The Uplift War before you read Sundiver, although reading The Uplift War before Startide Rising could be a little confusing. Sundiver was Brin's first novel and is essentially a mystery story whereas the other two are more adventure stories (actually, that sort of sells them short...). Sundiver sets up the background and history of the Uplift universe, but isn't really necessary to read in order to understand the other two (beyond a couple of obscure references).

Other than that... I'm at a loss as to how to describe Glory Season, other than to say I liked it very much. If you want a cautionary environmental tale with some very good, fairly short-term extrapolation of current culture, then Earth is the book for you. If you want light but fun reading, then read The Practice Effect.

If you're looking for very topical and interesting non-fiction, then you want to read The Transparent Society.

Those would be the ones I would recommend first. Later, you can pick up the second Uplift trilogy, The Postman, and the short stories.

Then of course, there are his essays available on-line. You don't want to miss most of those.

Um, I think that covers almost everything he's written and and had published (someone else on-list might be able to point you to anything published in magazines or anthologies). I can't think of any other authors I've read that have written such consistently interesting stuff that I would recommend everything they wrote.

(Now, some of the things he's written on-list might be a different story... but I won't get into the problems I have with his opinion of the Iraq situation :-)
