More migraine sufferers read David Brin than any other SF author.

With me, diet soda by itself will not trigger a migraine. A full pound steak 
will most likely trigger a migraine 24 hours after eating it. Never earlier.

It seems to be the total level of toxicity that's the  trigger. In grade 
school I used to throw up regularly once a month, missing the next day of 
school.

As to heat...
Diet Coke is fair, Diet Pepsi a bit worse, but the most foul taste comes from 
a Diet Barc's Root Beer left all day in the Arizona sun.

Never again.
