And speaking of LotR, am I the only who finds himself feeling a very strong urge to visit New Zealand after watching the movies? It's amazingly beautiful country, at least the parts Mr. Jackson is showing us.

I was on holidays when this was posted, so forgive the late response, but trust me - it's all like that. Well, the bits that aren't like that are seething volcanic geysers, endless surf beaches, friendly people and some of the most spectacular roads anywhere. We prefer to ski there than in Australia (it's actually cheaper to fly to New Zealand and ski than to travel by any means to the various Australian resorts) with the only caveat that there's very little on-snow accomodation. The North Island of NZ is nowhere near as spectacular, but still beautiful.

(of course, the wild, desolate look is a result of the lack of human impact, and that's because they've all moved over here!)
