Just like my dad. Avoids doctors like the plague. Couple of years ago (when
he was 80), he had a few too many and fell over. To everyone else, he was
obviously badly injured. Couldn't raise his arms at all. His remedy was to
increase his exercising to regain functionality. Push-ups etc. Two weeks
later he was forcibly taken to hospital. He had a broken neck. Doctors were
open-mouthed when they heard the story. Apparently, the thing that saved him
was that his neck is quite calcified (spondylitis?) and this prevented
movement and hence damage to the spinal cord. He was not an ideal patient
for the next few weeks.
