My last few messages to this list included a perfectly legal copyright notice -- and our List Dictator promptly responded.

I just received an off-list message from Arnett in which he claims my Copyright Notice exposes him to liability that he finds unacceptable. This was followed by the EXPLICIT THREAT that if I would include it again, I would be PUT ON MODERATION FOR AS LONG AS HE HOSTS THE LIST, and that NO MESSAGES CONTAINING THAT COPYRIGHT NOTICE WOULD BE ALLOWED THROUGH. Further, that decision would be made by him unilaterally, without consulting with his fellow list admin Julia Thompson. Finally, he claims it is not negotiable and that he will not discuss the matter with me.

Am I the only one here who thinks that Arnett is overreacting again? Apparently *his* copyright must be defended at all cost, but anyone else who claims copyright and wants that copyright respected is "exposing him to unacceptable liability". I wonder what will be the next thing we will not be allowed to say...

Once again Arnett is unilaterally deciding who may and may not post, and what a poster may and may not write. I think it is about time we start discussing exactly what a list-admin may and may not do; Arnett's abuse of his list-admin powers has gone on long enough.

Personally, I think he should apologise and turn the hosting of this list over to someone else. Until that "someone else" is found, I believe the best course of action would be to let him continue hosting the list, without having any other involvement with the list (other than being a subscriber). IOW, let him provide the infrastructure (till we find a new host), but not let him have any administrative powers.

What do you all think?
