Apologies if this has been posted already, and I missed it: CANNES, France (Reuters) - A top music executive said on Saturday that telecommunications companies and Internet service providers (ISPs) will be asked to pay up for giving their customers access to free song-swapping sites.
For the rest, go here: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=582&e=3&cid=582&u=/nm/20030118/wr_nm/tech_internet_music_dc You know, if the RIAA ever took a little time to examine its own problems, they'd be attacking the real reasons for their low sales. For example, I went out the other day to purchase the new Disturbed CD, which was going to be my first CD purchase not from one of those music services in a long time. And it was $18. EIGHTEEN DOLLARS!!!! WTF? For those of you who don't recall, when CDs first came out, we were told they'd get cheaper as the technology got more prevalent. Instead, it now costs $18 for a $1 CD. Maybe the RIAA needs to encourage price reductions; what high school or college kid can afford to pay that regularly? No wonder there's file sharing.
