It also sounds like the guy sets high standards, giving a recommendation only if the student first achieved an A in his class.

What mystifies me is the fact the one student in the article attended another university to get the letter. Why not just get it from another professor at Texas Tech? I'm sure they have more than one Bio professor and a number of classes...
