Oops, I accidently did families instead of households here.  I'll do
households because that was the number I've been quoting.  For households,
the median income rose 5% between 80 and 92, while the income of the top 5%
rose 33%.

It doesn't change the conclusion that can be drawn from the information,
but I didn't want to throw another variable in.

Finally, a quick note on the difference between science and social science.
While helping my wife with her thesis, I saw that it is relatively easy  to
note correlation in data but often all but impossible to determine the
arrow of causality.
