Work out the cake issues beforehand.

We didn't do smooshing; I threatened bodily harm if there was actual
smooshing.  But we did the cake-feeding, and kept it reasonably tidy. 
(Again, if some had gotten on the dress, cotton's fairly washable stuff.)

Oh, one piece of general advice:  If your wedding is in the summer in a part
of the country (or world) known for summer heat, a cotton wedding dress is
pretty darn comfortable.  (We bought a whole lot of white cotton brocade,
and my mom made the dress.)
