I would much rather deal with the snowstorms here than the tornados. We
don't get them often, but last November there was a huge cluster of
tornados that went through on what they were calling the "perfect storm"
If memory serves. There were no less than 10 touchdowns in a 10 mile
radius of my apartment. I think that there were 3 or 4 deaths up near
Cleveland. I was never truly afraid of tornados until we moved into
this apartment that does not have a basement.

When I was a police officer in the early 90's, I remember tracking
funnel clouds and twisters over the city. It was actually kind of a rush
- at the time. But now that I am older, and have children, I find that I
am much more "cautious" than I ever used to be. The problem with
tornados here is that with the hills and trees, it is nearly impossible
to see one coming until it is right on top of you. My last ditch safety
plan is a manhole that is right outside of our door. Hiding in a closed
room in this apartment is not an option.
