I saw a TV program about ADD/ADHD. The schoolkids [from a school in Colorado, IIRC] were diagnosed with ADD after they failed to concentrate on a reading of The Great Gatsby, but this was easily cured when all kids took Ritalin.

A very simplistic diagnosis, if I may add.
If the *only* criteria used to diagnose a classroom full of kids was failure to concentrate on a book, then whoever diagnosed this should be tarred, feathered and branded. ;-)
Appalling. They give them a pill, everybody's happy, "the end". And then people complain that ADD has a bad reputation.

I know a pal of mine is worried about his local elementary school. They have a high level of ADHD kids, as in every kid that gets out of line is so labeled. He says to me, very privately, that he wants his wife to home school the kids but she is already frazzled and dreaming of the day when the kids are in school and she can get a real job. (Not meaning that literally.)
OTOH another buddy has a step child who does have ADHD but that was so obvious with the poor lad. He is doing much better now.
