DTI data can be obtained on any high field (1.5T or greater) with high speed gradients
(most high field magnets are sold with these). The big vendors are offering DTI
sequences on their systems but in some centers research sequences are used to generate
images. The analysis (either anistropy measures ) or tractograms can be generated
relatively quickly. My neurologists are beginning to ask for tractograms on clinical
cases treating it like any other imaging study. I would guess within 5 years it will
be routine. We and UCSF are embarking on a DTI and fMRI study of mild head trauma. We
hope to collect our data over the next year.
