While we're at it, here's a query from a friend of mine.
Dear Dave,
Do you remember the Arthur C. Clarke story about "skydiving from space" that is written as if it's an emergency, and then it turns out to just be a new form of competitive skydiving? Rick Tumlinson would love to have the title.
Joe
I don't mean to stray off-topic, but the idea of "skydiving from space" even showed up in the almost-final-draft of "Star Trek: Generations" movie. As the movie was originally intended to open, Kirk was skydiving from the atmosphere!! The scene was cut from the final version of the movie. I saw it in the Internet a couple of years ago, since it became widely available between bootlegers and even WinMx carried it. But the scene wasn't removed from either the novelization nor the comic book adaptations of the movie. There was an action figure of Kirk in "skydiving" outfit released!!!
Food for thought,
JJ
