A large amount of college dropouts from very prestigious institutions are called back to attend major functions, and they are granted honorary degrees as well!
Case in point, well-known music composer and Julliard dropout Michael Kamen. He scored the album and movie "Pink Floyd the Wall" among others, and has conducted numerous symphonic rock concert events. On the day he was conducting the Julliard Symphony on Roger Daltrey's 50th. B-day, he was awarded an honorary degree.
To me, this is a very cynical comment on those fresh young turks sitting on the musician chairs in front of him. But hey, that's life. Academics are sometimes secondary to real-world experience.
