And I think "better than even" is hopeless optimistic, at least as 
regards the current social structure.

I've never been overly attached to reprisentative democracy. Ideally, 
actually, one of the two systems (the other is a little complex...) 
wouls be like the Fifth Imperium from Weber's _Mutineers Moon_ 
series.

The problem..is that the current goverments show no sign of willing 
to give up their strangehold on some technologies. And the US 
government has reacted - brilliantly if not to everyones tastes - in 
making 9/11 the springboard for ALL kinds of laws. A codified 
constitution...limits as much as it protects.

I refer you to the, for example, the fact that VPN's and NAT are 
ALLREADY illegal in several US states.

*sighs*

I don't see it lasting forever. I don't see the change being 
peaceful. And the longer it takes, the worse it will be overall.

I fear for the world I've borrowed from my children (the Native 
American Indian view as I recall - you borrow the world from your 
children, they don't inherit if from you).

I guess in some ways I found _Dark Angel_ chillingly accurate.
