Wade Adams lives close to Rice and rides his Segway two miles
from home to campus almost every day. Starting Sept. 1, Texas law
officially makes the Segway legal to ride on all sidewalks, bike
lanes and, when there are no sidewalks, on streets posted at 30 mph
or less.
Guess I'm one of those poor souls who can't really get anywhere on a
Segway legally -- while the roads in our development have a 25 mph speed
limit, all the roads immediately outside are at least 40 mph. :P I'd
have to drive a good distance with the Segway in the car to find a place
to use it.
But I wouldn't want to be on a Segway on those roads anyway -- when
pickup trucks regularly exceed the speed limit, it's not a great road
for being on something like that. (Bad enough being on a bicycle on
some of the roads....)
